St. Oran’s National School History
by John and Jack
The original name of the school here was St Mary’s National school. The school was in what is now Cockhill Football Club. The plaque at the entrance to the building says that it opened in 1928. The Principal of the school at that time was W.M. Doherty (dúchas.ie).

The school was renamed Saint Oran’s National School and opened at its current site in 1984.
The Principal’s name was Master Michael McNeilis.

St Oran’s has always been sport related and has had great success in the past, winning many cups and competitions. St Oran’s has always been involved in many other projects from tidy towns to art projects.

There have been many changes in the school as you will notice from the class photos – the school has increased in size and we now wear uniforms.
